Recreational kayaks are the fastest growing segment of the sport. The're great day-tripping, family, fishing, bird-watching, and are all-around stable, fun boats. Many paddlers will enter the sport of paddling here. You will find a wide-array of styles in this category. Length varies from short to long (8'-16'), and wider (26"-32") than the touring boats. They can have small to extra large cockpits. Some may have rudders or molded-in rudders, hatches, and deck rigging, although not all. We stock polyethylene recreational kayaks, although some may come in fiberglass/Kevlar.

Sit-on-top recreational kayaks are made for those that don't like the idea of sitting inside a kayak. Great for play, hot weather, kids, fishing, and more. Some kayaks are designed for the surf zone, others for lakes and easy rivers. Length varies from 8'-16'. Some have hatches. Most have scupper holes for drainage. Some allow for extended trip storage. We suggest buying an accessory backband or seat with many of these boats.
